Giannis Antetokounmpo Leads NBA All-Star Voting

Giannis Antetokounmpo leads the NBA all-star voting alongside LeBron James. This is according to the report released by the NBA on Thursday. Also, both superstars led the list last week. Antetokounmpo got 3.4 million votes. On the other hand, James got 3 million.

According to pay per head bookie reports, Antetokounmpo topped the East frontcourt voting for the second week. Joel Embiid of the 76ers came in second with 2.98 million votes. In addition, Jayson Tatum of the Celtics came in third with 2.94 million. Despite their best efforts, Jimmy Butler and Jaylen Brown remained in fourth and fifth place, respectively.

In the West, the results were almost similar: Nikola Jokic is second (2.78 million), followed by Suns forward Kevin Durant (2.77 million). Also, Durant’s votes were almost twice that of Anthony Davis. Kawhi Leonard is in fifth place.

NBA All-Star Voting

Only Pacers standout Tyrese Haliburton, who hurt his hamstring this week, and one other East guard with more than 2 million votes are considered backcourt contenders. One alteration to the starting lineups from the two conferences: the promotion of Hawks guard Trae Young to the starting lineup from the Bucks guard Damian Lillard. According to sportsbook software experts, Tyreke Maxey of the Sixers and Donovan Mitchell of the Cavaliers finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

After Stephen Curry and Luka Doncic in the West, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Thunder, James Harden of the Clippers, and Kyrie Irving of the Mavericks were the next in line, all with over 2 million votes. Voting for the 2019 All-Star team will end on January 20th, and the next set of ballots will be available the following Thursday. Jan. 25 will see the unveiling of the starters.

After several years of using a captains-choosing-teams model, the NBA announced earlier this season that the All-Star Game would return to its original East vs. West format. James and Antetokounmpo were named team captains for last year’s Utah game and were the top vote-getters.
