North Carolina State, led by Burns, is the lone team with a double-digit seed remaining in the men’s NCAA basketball tournament. According to per head bookie experts, the top seeds have dominated the game, leaving little room for underdog stories.

That has put North Carolina State in the limelight, which could appear like an unusual Cinderella story at first glance. They are not a little institution having a one-off moment of brilliance. Instead, they are a strong conference team with two championships.

According to basketball news reports, NC State won the 1983 title despite being seeded sixth. In addition, the iconic picture of then-head coach Jim Valvano celebrating by running across the floor after the final buzzer is a blood relative of the Wolfpack. The team this year is now starting to feel comfortable with their strengths.

Last Cinderella Team in March Madness

The Wolfpack could not have made it this far without winning seven games in a row, every one of which was an elimination game in which a loss would have ended their season. A terrible 17-14 record at the end of the regular season was enough to prevent the team from earning an at-large invite to the NCAA tournament before that run of seven losses in a row.

Their sole option was to submit an automatic bid; however, to secure a spot in March Madness, NC State would need to win five games in as many days during the ACC conference championship.

There you have it. As a result of their winning streak, they were seeded eleventh in the NCAA tournament. They began the tournament by defeating six-seed Texas Tech and fourteen-seed Oakland. According to the squad, they no longer have any doubts about competing with the higher seeds.
